No major flooding in Mildura until November: BOM

Any floods set to hit Mildura won’t arrive until mid-November, meteorologists have said.

Flooding exposes ‘extreme risk’ of new electric cars

While the Mildura region saw massive rainfall last week and there is more on the way, the Bureau of Meteorology says Mildura shouldn’t expect any flooding until the middle of November.

Last Thursday Mildura saw 44mm of rain, almost double the average for the entire month of October.

Mayor Laim wood said there was some damage but repairs were underway.

“Given the extent of the rain – well over double the monthly average for October in less than 24 hours – this was unavoidable and it’s going to take some time to assess these impacts,” he said.

“They are working as quickly as they can to complete this process and make the necessary repairs, and a lot of progress has already been made.”

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Morgan Pumpa said there was more rain on the way for Mildura but no major flooding was expected in the town.

“Mildura is named as one of the location in our minor to major flood warnings,” she said, noting it may reach a minor flood level in mid-November.

“On Wednesday within Mildura there is a chance of around 20mm of rain within showers.

“There is also a chance of thunderstorms Wednesday into Sunday.”

Ms Pumpa reminded people to keep an eye on the warnings.

“It is still some time away with it being mid-November, so things could change, just keep an eye on the warnings,” she said.
