A Comanchero bikie from the state’s north unleashed a tirade of abuse at local cops when they tried to impound a car he claimed belonged to him, a court has heard.

Sekonaia Vave, of Robinvale, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday afternoon to plead guilty to charges resulting from a late night incident in Robinvale.

The court heard police pulled over a vehicle on a Robinvale street and discovered the driver of the car only had a learner’s permit.

Further checks determined the passenger didn’t have a licence either and they had to impound the vehicle.

As that was happening, Vave, accompanied by several others, arrived on the scene and was immediately aggressive, asking police why they were taking the vehicle and claiming the vehicle was his.

His aggression turned to threats, and he unloaded a barrage of foul-mouthed threats at the police officers attending the scene.

When Vave was arrested he continued his barrage of abuse saying the officer he verbally abused had a very “punch-able head.”

“Stop f---ing with us … You f---ing dogs … I’ll swing right now, c--t … Do you know who the f--k I am? … We will make your f---ing life hell,” Vave yelled at various times during the confrontation with police.

When officers arrested Vave on Friday, he asked them, “Is that fat c--t upset I said I was going to punch him in the head? Hasn’t anyone ever told him that he has a very punch-able head,” the court heard.

Vave’s lawyer, Sonja Radovic, submitted to the court that a previous two-year stint behind bars he had been acquitted for could be used as pre-sentence detention for this matter.

Magistrate Patrick Southey dismissed that out of hand, saying, ”You can’t possibly be submitting (Vave’s previous) 768 days of imprisonment is essentially a get out of jail free card?”

Ms Radovic said her client was deeply remorseful, apologetic and ashamed, but felt he was being picked on by police.

“(Police were) far from picking on him, police were admirably calm,” Mr Southey said after video of the incident was played.

Police prosecutor Jeri Fung said Vave had imposed himself on the situation and called for a jail sentence.

“(Vave) inherently involved himself for no real reason and inflamed the situation,” Mr Fung said.

Despite numerous attempts from Ms Radovic to persuade Mr Southey to impose a combination sentence, the magistrate was unmoved.

Ms Radovic added that her client was suffering from heart failure and might not get the medical treatment he needed if given a jail term.

“His prospects of rehabilitation are poor … he has had two long stretches in prison and he continues to reoffend (and) seems to revel in his hard man, criminal status,” Mr Southey said

“The nature of threats coming from a member of an outlaw motorcycle gang member … is just appalling.”

Vave was sentenced to five months behind bars, with four days reckoned as pre-sentence detention.
