Late last week Mildura’s ex-mayor Jason Modica was suspended from the council for two months and forced to apologise for not declaring conflicts of interest.

At this month’s council meeting, Mr Modica will formally apologise to the council for his actions.

Also on the council’s agenda this month are considerations for a petition about Rudds Road and renaming some of the roads in Red Cliffs.

More than 25 residents signed a petition to have a culvert installed underneath Rudds road, which they want to be built to connect Bullock Swamp North to Bullock Swamp South.

The council will also consider naming three of the laneways in Red Cliffs.

The three laneways between Rowe Parade, Boree Street, and Tecoma Street would be named Milner Lane, Newberry Lane, and Oxenham Lane.

The proposed names were agreed upon after the council contacted the Red Cliffs Historical Society for names with historical relevance.

Milner Lane will be named after Bryan Neale Milner.

Mr Milner was a local electrician in Red Cliffs for decades and was a founding member of the Red Cliffs Lions Club before his passing last year.

Newberry Lane would be named after Archibald Mallord Newberry and Elsie Newberry who both arrived in Red Cliffs when it was still a tent town.

During their work preparing the town for development, the pair set-up the first-ever radio station in Sunraysia.

Archibald died in 1973 when he was aged 79 and Elsie died in 1970 when she was aged 76.

Samuel Henry Oxenham was originally a world war 1 settler who was known for his vegetable growing. Mr Oxenham died in 1943 but was survived by his nine children except for Reginald ‘Jack’ Oxenham who passed the same year as a prisoner of war at Changi Prison.

The meeting will take place on Thursday night.
