A Mildura house cleaner told the police “If you are going to treat me like an animal, I am going to act like an animal” before rubbing her genitalia all over the cell, a court has heard.
Terri Rogers, 44, told Mildura Magistrates’ Court, through her lawyer, that she was very embarrassed by her actions as she pleaded guilty.
The court heard Rogers was brought to Mildura police station on unrelated matters and requested a jumper and a visit to the toilet while she was in the interview room and both requests were facilitated.
Rogers started deliberately coughing up phlegm and then removed her underwear and urinated and defecated in the interview room
She was then taken to a secure cell where she urinated on the floor again and spread faeces all over the cell. The court heard she spat many times as well.
When police tried to get her to stop, Rogers said, “If you’re going to treat me like an animal, I am going to act like an animal.”
Rogers’ lawyer said Rogers was extremely embarrassed by her behaviour and that she was going through a stressful time.
Rogers also told the court her housing situation was an added stress for her and her family too, noting she had been moved to one of the more notorious streets in Mildura
Magistrate Patrick Southey empathised with Rogers’ housing situation, but convicted Rogers nonetheless.
“Your behaviour is very strange. You would be embarrassed. You can’t behave like this,” Mr Southey said.
Rogers was convicted and received a 12-month good behaviour bond.
