The Mildura Cup has been cancelled due to the poor condition of the racecourse on the back of last year’s floods.

The cup — which was to celebrate its 100th anniversary — was due to go ahead on Friday, July 21, however given the conditions of the track the race has been cancelled dealing a major blow to Mildura’s tourism, racing club manager Jarratt Farley said.

“It’s been cancelled completely this year, The Mildura Cup won‘t be conducted at all in 2023,” he said.

Mr Farley said while the course itself was ready, infrastructure work would not be ready until August.

“We are expecting to be ready to race in August, it’s just matter of having all the infrastructure, buildings all that up to scratch,” he said.

Mr Farley said while the race could have been moved, it was decided to cancel, so the 100th anniversary could be celebrated in Mildura

“The next Mildura Cup is the 100th so we would like to see come back bigger and better. and be held in Mildura” he said.
