A man who stole a bottle of wine and a woman’s handbag has appeared in court from police custody after being caught riding a bike without a helmet.

Wayne Taylor, 25, pleaded guilty in Mildura Magistrates’ Court on October 19 after being taken into police custody in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Appearing from the docks, Taylor faced multiple charges, including theft, entering a private place without consent, riding a bike without a helmet and committing indictable offences while on bail.

On August 27, police stopped Taylor in the street and attempted to speak with him.

After Taylor refused to cooperate with officers, they conducted a full body search, discovering a modified cheese knife and half a gram of meth.

On September 5, Taylor was seen with another man entering a Mildura property at 4.20am.

The pair broke into a closed carport before stealing a bottle of wine from a fridge.

Just four days later, Taylor stole a woman’s handbag from her car in the carpark of the Grand Hotel on Seventh St on September 9.

After reporting the theft to police, the victim saw a charge on her phone from her bank account to Dominos and another $103.94 purchase from an APCO servo.

CCTV footage from the servo showed Taylor buying cigarettes and food using the stolen bank card.

Taylor’s final interaction with police was on October 18, when they saw him riding a bike without a helmet in the early hours of the morning.

Officers began following Taylor, indicating for him to pull over.

The court heard Taylor kept cycling, telling police to “f--k off”.

Eventually intercepted by the cops, Taylor provided a false licence with another person’s details on it.

Eventually a proof of age card was found in a body search, along with a small orange fishing knife.

Taylor was taken into custody and appeared from the docks in court on Thursday.

Magistrates Michael Coghlan warned Taylor the more times he returned to court, the closer he would be to spending a longer time in prison.

Mr Coghlan ordered him to pay $900 total in fines with conviction for this bout of offending.
