A Mildura man has gone on a bizarre crime spree, abusing a patron at a laundromat and taking off with his bike, before getting in a drunken fight with his mate in front of police.

Nathon Greenfield, 29, pleaded guilty at Mildura Magistrates’ Court on October 24 to one charge of theft, one charge of being drunk and disorderly and one charge of possessing a prohibited weapon.

The court heard Greenfield went to a laundromat on May 31 where he bags making small talk with a man shortly after 9.10pm.

However, after the small talk ended, Greenfield left the laundromat and jumped on the other man’s bike before riding off. He returned when the bike owner came out of the laundromat and started yelling, before again riding off, without collecting his clothes.

Police later found an antique bone knife in Greenfield’s belongings.

The court heard Greenfield had more trouble with police on August 4, after refusing to leave his friend’s home.

Greenfield had gone to his mate’s house for a drinking session before they came to blows after Greenfield refused to leave.

When police arrived they found Greenfield outside the house heavily intoxicated.

Greenfield again refused to leave, and resisted arrest forcing police to use capsicum spray and baton to get him into the divvy van.

The court heard Greenfield had recently been struggling with his mental health.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said he was concerned a corrections order would be too intense for Greenfield.

“I don’t want to set you up for failure,” he said.

“Your problems aren’t new and you’ve coped well for a long time, you need to go back to what you were doing before,” he said.

Greenfield was convicted and ordered to pay a total fine of $636.70.
