A Mildura man with a “shocking history” of unlicensed driving has told a magistrate he has been “too busy” to complete a court mandated driving course.

Father of four Dylan Edwards told the Mildura Magistrates’ Court a broken collarbone left meant he didn’t have time to obtain his licence.

Pleading guilty on Thursday to multiple charges of driving without a licence and driving with drugs in his system, Edwards was warned he was close to jail.

“You have a shocking history of unlicensed driving, you’re close to jail Mr Edwards,” Magistrate Patrick Southey said.

“I find it hard to believe you’ve been so busy for three months that you haven’t been able to make any progress.”

Mr Southey said despite Edwards’ previous lack of motivation, he was willing to keep adjourning the case until he’d gotten his licence back.

“You’ll be much more useful to your children with a licence, but you’ll be no use at all if you end up in jail,” he said.

Mr Southey warned Edwards that he had to give up all drugs if he wanted a stable future.

“Step up, be a good father. You’ve got to give it up,” he said.

“If you can get your licence or at least go a long way to getting your licence, you’ve got nothing to fear.”

Edwards will return to court on December 15.
