A serial sex pest who continually harrassed a teenager by sending disturbing messages and unwanted nude photos has been locked up.

Daniel Currah, 35, pleaded guilty to a stalking charge in Mildura Magistrates’ Court on October 19, after a 15-year-old reported him for sending her vile messages including one of his penis.

Currah first contacted the victim on January 5 via text, sending a barrage of messages, including asking the victim if they “liked his c---”, before sending a photo of his penis.

The court heard the victim responded to Currah, texting “f--- off”, but he continued to send more disgusting messages, one reading “would you f--- me tonight”, and offering to pay the victim for sex.

The messages turned more sinister when Currah refused to identify himself.

The court heard the victim was frightened by the messages, saying “you’re scaring me because I don’t know who you are. I feel unsafe to go outside my house”.

The teenager reported the messages to police, who easily identified Currah by his phone number.

The court heard Currah had been convicted of sexual penetration of a child under 15 in 2012 and had been a registered sex offender since.

He was required to notify police within 24 hours if he had any contact with a person under 15.

In court on Thursday, Currah’s lawyer Hugh Middleton said his client “didn’t remember the offending”.

“He had stopped using all drugs late last year, but relapsed in December and early January,” he said.

“His drug use influenced his offending and he doesn’t remember this particular thread of messages.”

Magistrate Michael Coghlan said the image of Currah’s genitals was “no doubt unwelcome”.

“The victim was 15 and made it quite clear to you that they didn’t want you to contact or communicate with them,” he said.

“I don’t know what it is with men who think this behaviour will be in any way attractive or will entice anyone.”

Mr Coghlan said the offending was worsened by the victim asking Currah to stop communication more than once.

Currah was sentenced to 37 days behind bars for stalking and failing to comply with his reporting conditions.
