A Mildura man accused of threatening to rape a 16-year-old told police he planned to turn himself in before he was arrested, a court has heard.
Kallum Pierson fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court seeking bail on multiple charges including threat to commit a sexual act, common law assault, criminal damage and driving offences.
The court heard Mr Pierson allegedly smashed the rear window of a vehicle owned by a friend of his alleged victim during a dispute between himself and the alleged victim in November.
Just days after that alleged incident police claimed Mr Pierson confronted the 16-year-old at Mildura property.
During the confrontation, he allegedly threatened to hit the girl with a piece of wood and said “You’re not going anywhere, I’ll rape you again.”
Mr Pierson was also accused of multiple alleged driving offences.
The court was told Mr Pierson was on a community corrections order at the time of his most recent alleged offending.
After he was arrested, police alleged Mr Pierson told them he knew he was wanted by police and was going to turn himself in.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan was presented with unsubstantiated claims regarding Mr Pierson’s mental health issues, drug dependency and an acquired brain injury.

Mr Pierson’s lawyer, Peter Delorenzo, described his client as a young, vulnerable Indigenous man, arguing there were exceptional circumstances in his case.
While conceding that Mr Pierson posed a risk, he maintained that “strict (bail) conditions can see those risks alleviated.”
“Mr Pierson has done himself no favours with his poor compliance with the community corrections order,” Mr Coghlan said.
“You continue to breach orders and seek to control her by your behaviours, taking away her phone, making threats of self harm, physical violence and it would seem threats of sexual abuse.”
“I am not going to give you bail because of the risk to the young victim,” Mr Coghlan said.
When the decision was handed down, Mr Pierson was in tears and said, “please” begging the magistrate to reconsider.
“I don’t want to be in Mildura anymore, it’s just making it worse for me,” Mr Pierson said.
Mr Pierson is next slated to appear on December 18.
