A Mildura man threatened to burn down a house and to headbutt staff at a Kmart during a wild, drug-fuelled spree across Mildura, a court has heard.
Tumokia Chapman, 26, fronted Mildura Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to a string of charges, including unlawful assault, theft, and possessing drugs of dependence.
The court heard Chapman had jumped the fence at the house of one of his victim’s, before entering the address and frightening the victim with his behaviour. Police attended and Chapman was arrested and could be heard saying he would return to the house and burn it down once he was out on bail.
On multiple other occasions throughout 2024 and 2025, Chapman was found at different times in possession of prescription drugs like Xanax, Diazepam and Lyrica in his possession, along with cannabis and methamphetamine.
Chapman also stole nearly $1000 worth of items from various stores in Mildura including $200 worth of men’s toiletries from Woolworths, more than $400 worth of fragrances from Chemist Warehouse and skin care products from Kmart.
When he was approached by staff at Kmart and asked to pay for the skincare items Chapman threatened to “headbutt” staff before leaving without paying.
Chapman’s lawyer Hannah Smith conceded her client had a problem with prescription drugs and urged the court to give him a community corrections order.
Magistrate Patrick Southey called Chapman’s offending “appalling”.
“Drugs are ruining your life and making you behave like a lunatic,” Mr Southey said.
“Your erratic, drug-fuelled offending is appalling.”
Chapman was sentenced to 26 days in custody, reckoned as time served, and placed on an 18-month community corrections order.
