A Mildura man has been accused of multiple assaults, including one where it was claimed he fractured a woman’s skull, a court has heard.

Jordan Newson-Marukic, 25, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to apply for bail after being charged with assault, recklessly causing injury, stalking, and assault with a weapon, among others.

Mr Newson-Marukic allegedly called one of his victims more than 400 times as well as sending a staggering 130 messages between November 2023 and August 2024.

In another alleged incident, the court heard Mr Newson-Marukic took off in his car, reaching 60km/h with his alleged victim hanging from the car.

He was also accused of multiple assaults, including one incident that allegedly left a woman with a fractured skull.

The court heard of Mr Newson-Marukic’s methylamphetamine addiction.

Mr Newson-Marukic’s father took the stand to advocate for his son, telling the court that he had a zero-tolerance policy toward drugs in his household and that the family would be happy to have him stay with them while he was on bail.

Magistrate Megan Aumair stood the case down to read materials provided to her by police.

“The seriousness of these allegations cannot be understated,” Ms Aumair said when she returned.

The magistrate noted there was a strong case against Mr Newson-Marukic, adding the alleged victim was reportedly terrified of him.

“There are no compelling reasons. You are an unacceptable risk, and your application for bail is refused,” Ms Aumair said.

“How can I be remanded for this?” Mr Newson-Marukic asked after the magistrate had denied bail, but he was quickly told to keep quiet by his lawyer.

Mr Newson-Marukic will front court again on October 8.
