A Mildura man has been accused of beating, choking, and imprisoning a woman during a wild alleged attack, a court has heard.

Glen Lawson fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court, in an attempt to get bail, on several charges, including recklessly causing injury, assault with a weapon, and common law false imprisonment among others.

The court heard that in November of last year the woman woke to find Mr Lawson inside her home. When Mr Lawson noticed the woman was awake, he allegedly jumped on them, delivering several punches to the woman’s face.

Police said Mr Lawson also hurled a pedestal fan at the woman and smashed an iPad over their head.

When the victim tried to escape, Mr Lawson was accused of tripping them, causing them to lose consciousness. The court heard the woman regained consciousness only to find themselves being dragged by their hair into the bathroom.

Once in the bathroom, the violence allegedly escalated further.

Mr Lawson was accused of choking the woman until they passed out, pulling a knife on them, and making several threats to kill.

At one point, Mr Lawson allegedly stripped the woman of their clothes and threw them into the shower.

Mr Lawson allegedly said “you’re not going anywhere,” while brandishing a retractable knife.

Mr Lawson’s lawyer, Hugh Middleton, argued that strict bail conditions could ensure Mr Lawson would not pose a threat.

The court also heard of Mr Lawson’s meth addiction, along with his long standing mental health issues.

Magistrate Michael Coghlan rejected Mr Lawson’s bail application. He is next slated to appear on October 18.
