A homeless teen, living rough on the banks of the Murray at Red Cliffs with his father, slapped a woman on the backside on his way home from smoking bongs with mates, a court has heard.
Kody Glover, 19, fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Friday, to apply for bail on charges including sexual assault, and charges related to various alleged property damages and theft.
The court heard in February 2024, Mr Glover allegedly approached a woman doing her gardening after drinking beer and smoking marijuana with friends.
Police claimed that after staring at her for an extended period, Mr Glover approached the woman and asked if she needed help gardening, before slapping her on the backside.
It was alleged Mr Glover told police, “he had done a sexual assault,” and his behaviour had been “obnoxious.”
Furthermore, on May 5 this year, Glover allegedly climbed on to a car at a property on 15th St and began jumping on the hood, before purportedly kicking in the windshield before running off.
Police arrested him some 10 days later, where Mr Glover allegedly made his feelings on appearing at court clear.
“I couldn’t give a f--k about court I am not going,” it is alleged Mr Glover said to police.
The court heard that Mr Glover had reportedly smashed shop windows on several occasions and had allegedly been caught riding ride-on lawnmowers from different properties.
It was also alleged Mr Glover made more than $300 damage to the bathrooms at Merbein Caravan Park in late 2024.
Mr Glover’s lawyer Hugh Middleton suggested reporting conditions and a promise to immediately present at the mental health department of Mildura Base Public Hospital.
This was rejected by Magistrate Patrick Southey, who said the risk of Mr Glover receiving bail was too high.
“Despite (a myriad of) factors … it seems to me the risk to the community is completely unacceptable, so bail is refused,” Mr Southey said.
Mr Glover was remanded in custody and is next slated to appear on June 5.
