Five people injured following incident at Merbein, near Mildura

Police are investigating after four people received injuries caused by a knife, and two cars were damaged in northwest Victoria on Saturday.

Police are investigating after four people were allegedly stabbed at Merbein, near Mildura, on Saturday.

Emergency services responded to a car fire just after 10.30pm on Saturday on Box Street, Merbein.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze however the front of the car was extensively damaged.

Another car was also located with a broken windscreen and panel damage.

When police arrived they allegedly found an altercation between a group of people and a man they believed had damaged the vehicle

Four people at the scene were identified as having minor injuries caused by a knife and were treated at the scene by paramedics.

A 50-year-old Merbein man, who also sustained minor injuries, was arrested in relation to the assaults and is assisting police with inquiries.

The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.
