A Cardross home has been reduced to ashes by a major blaze that lit up the normally peaceful town at the weekend.
Nine fire crews from the CFA and Fire Rescue Victoria rushed to the scene at 19th St about 7.52pm, arriving to find the single-storey weatherboard property already well ablaze.
Onlookers described towering flames getting dangerously close to nearby trees.
“It was well alight when crews arrived,” a CFA spokeswoman confirmed.
The CFA took charge of the firefighting efforts, with eight crews attending, while one FRV crew provided additional support.
After an intense firefight which lasted more than an hour, emergency crews finally brought the inferno under control just before 9pm. Authorities declared the scene safe just after ten o’clock.
Ambulance Victoria attended the scene, but confirmed no one required medical treatment or transport.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
