A Mildura woman who was involved in a burglary that saw a 3D printer, Marc Jacobs handbag, $2000 in cash, and several other items stolen has fronted court
Donna Walters, 55, pleaded guilty at the Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday to charges including theft, burglary, recklessly exposing an emergency worker to risk, and failure to obey a lawful direction given by a police officer, and was jailed for three month.
The court heard that on April 23, Walters and her co-accused waited for their victim to leave her house for work before they swooped in through an unlocked door.
The victim arrived home and witnessed Walters and her co-accused leaving the house. After a brief interaction, the victim called triple-0.
Mildura police found Walters and her co-accused in a Black Holden Captiva at the intersection of Fifteenth St and San Mateo Ave.
A police officer opened the passenger side door of the car and identified Walters as the driver. Walters then sped off in an attempt to avoid the police.
Police later found the vehicle, along with Walters and her co-accused and the pair were arrested.
Magistrate Patrick Southey was incredulous at the fact Walters had gotten herself into more trouble, particularly the driving offences.
“You clearly don’t like jail, so just stop driving,” Mr Southey said as he handed down his sentence.
“If it wasn't for your guilty plea, you would have received a five-month sentence,” he continued.
With just over a month reckoned as time served, Walters will be eligible for release in late July.
