A Coomealla truckie responsible for a one-punch attack in Mildura, threw a kebab at a police officer as he tried to make a run for it, a court has heard.
Daryl Brennan, 36, pleaded guilty to recklessly causing injury at Mildura Magistrates’ Court.
A police prosecutor said Brennan hit a man for no reason in the early hours of April 5.
After being at the Rumours nightclub the court heard Brennan went to the Langtree Ave kebab shop.
There he argued with a customer for no reason, saying: “Do you have a problem with me c***?”
Brennan then punched his victim’s lip.
There were multiple witnesses who saw Brennan attempt to flee the scene.
The court was told while police were chasing him, he threw a kebab at a sergeant.
In a police interview Brennan said he didn’t remember the attack.
Brennan’s lawyer said his client had issues with mental health which led to him drinking too much on the night.
The lawyer said Brennan had plans to leave the Mildura area for interstate once his court matter was resolved.
Magistrate Michael Coghlan said the incident was unnecessary.
Mr Coghlan, making note of Brennan’s prominent tattoos, said Brennan should expect to attract attention on a night out.
“It’s going to happen more than once,” Mr Coghlan said.
Brennan was convicted and fined $1000.
