Danny King attempted to get bail at Mildura Magistrates court after alleged drug fuelled crime spree

A Mildura man accused of being a one-man crime wave wreaking havoc across Sunraysia has faced court.

Danny King, 30, fronted Mildura Magistrates Court on 37 charges in an unsuccessful attempt to get bail.

Mr King’s charges range from alleged shop theft, to alleged possession of drugs, to the alleged theft of multiple motor vehicles.

Police claimed all the offending occurred between December 2023 through to April of this year.

Mr King’s lawyer, Georgia Kaye-Helmot, argued he was in the grips of drug addiction during the time of the offending.

“(The offending) directly correlates to a relapse back into drug use,” Ms. Kaye-Helmot said.

The police prosecutor argued Mr King was a significant flight risk.

Mr King appeared at Mildura Magistrates’ Court.

Ultimately, Magistrate Patrick Southey decided not to give Mr King bail, agreeing he was an unacceptable risk for bail.

“He’s alleged to be, effectively, a one-man crime wave. He is facing an astonishing array of charges, at different levels of seriousness,” Mr Southey said.

Before he let the accused go, Mr Southey had some career advice to Mr King.

“If and when you get your life back on track … maybe you should get a job as a salesman or a politician, because you’re a champion at saying the right things, but there’s got to come a time when you do the right thing,” Mr Southey said.

Danny King is next slated to appear at Mildura Magistrates Court on July 17.
