A Mildura man tied up his victim with duct tape and threatened him with a homemade firearm disguised as an iPhone during a terrifying attack in February of this year

Daniel Carter, 37, pleaded guilty to the Rosemont Ave attack in the Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The court heard Carter and his co-accused persuaded the victim to attend the co-accused’s house before subjecting him to an 11 hour ordeal that the victim attempted to escape from several times.

At one point, the victim freed himself from his restraints and made a dash for freedom, but was stopped by Carter and his co-accused.

When the victim was allowed a bathroom break, he attempted to alert neighbours to his situation through a gap in the toilet window.

Once Carter heard the victim doing this, he pointed the homemade firearm at the victim from the other side of the window to get him to stop.

The ordeal only ended when the victim agreed to give Carter and his co-accused his clothes, along with a bizarre request for the victim to wash their arms.

Carter and his co-accused were arrested on March 5 at the same address where the ordeal occurred.

During a search of the property following the arrests, police found the homemade firearm, along with some ammunition and GHB and cannabis.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said Carter’s prior convictions are as bad as he has seen in recent times Picture: Mark Stewart.

Carter gave no admissions during his initial police interview, but pleaded guilty at court on Wednesday to a raft of charges.

Magistrate Patrick Southey said the 37-year-old’s prior convictions were “as bad as (he had) seen for sometime” before adding he had to “consider protection of the community” as he handed down his sentence.

Carter was sentenced to 20 months behind bars, with a non-parole period of 10 months.
