A Mildura woman was busted with tick sheets and ammo in her bedroom after “mixing in a very dodgy crowd” a court has heard.

Claudia Hartley fronted Mildura Magistrates’ Court to plead guilty to a raft of charges ranging from drug trafficking to shop theft.

Hartley, 29, appeared before the court dressed all in black with her mother and stepfather to support her.

The court heard police executed a search warrant at a Mildura address after arresting another person and finding text messages between Hartley and that person indicating drug dealing behaviour.

The search of her room uncovered what police called a tick sheet diary and various assorted pieces of ammunition.

In a separate incident from August last year, officers tried to pull over a car Hartley was driving, only for her to later claim someone else had been behind the wheel.

An incident from May of this year outlined how Hartley had stolen a pair of pants valued at $29.99 from Cotton On in Mildura by going into the change rooms and putting them on underneath the jeans she already had on.

Hartley’s lawyer Bert Hilton Wood, told the court she had since cut ties with negative influences and was back living with her parents, and was helping her stepdad renovate a house.

Magistrate Patrick Southey agreed she was hanging around with bad influences, saying, “my impression is she was mixing in a very dodgy crowd”.

“The indication is 2025 is a much better year (for her) than 2024. Although I don’t often use judicial monitoring, she is so close to a jail (sentence),” Mr Southey said.

Hartley was assessed by corrections for her suitability for a community corrections order (CCO).

“If not for your plea of guilty, it would have been a term of imprisonment. Hopefully this year is better than last year Ms Hartley.”

Hartley was sentenced to an 18 month CCO that included mental health and drug programs as well as judicial monitoring.

She will appear before the court on September 9 as part of her judicial monitoring.
