A Mildura tiler has failed in his bid to get locked up despite spending the majority of his day trying, a court has heard.
Cetin Alcicek appeared at Mildura Magistrates’ Court sporting a ripped white T-shirt late on Wednesday to plead guilty to a minor crime in an attempt to get put behind bars.
Police said Mr Alcicek arrived at the Mildura courthouse at 11am on Wednesday morning and was found to be carrying a Stanley knife by security.
When police were called, Mr Alcicek said he was dropping off some paperwork and forgot he had the knife in his possession.
At around 12.30pm, Alcicek asked police what was the most minor crime he could commit that would see him put behind bars.
Mildura police officers advised Mr Alcicek that he shouldn’t commit any crime and just return home.
A short time later Mr Alcicek returned and contacted a person he is prohibited from contacting in front of a police officer, and was arrested on the spot. Magistrate Patrick Southey asked Mr Alcicek why he didn’t just go back to the address he had been bailed to.
Alcicek was evasive and simply told Mr Southey he didn’t feel safe at the address, but wouldn’t elaborate on why.
“He’s a very strange individual. I have no idea what is going on (with him), besides the fact that he uses meth,” Mr Southey said.
“I don’t know what’s going on. You won’t tell us. You reckon it’s not drugs, it is very complicated.”
Despite his best efforts, Mr Alcicek was not granted his wish to be put behind bars, and instead, he was bailed for a further court appearance on July 19 that will coincide with other charges he is facing.
