Cann Group: Mildura medical cannabis facility ‘on track’ to cementing Victoria’s place in the industry

There’s been a huge update in Mildura’s ground-breaking cannabis factory with revelations made about the first harvest of the drug.

The Cann Group’s Mildura medical cannabis factory is on track to completion with the first harvest expected some time this month.

Leading grower and processor Cann Group is close to completing its groundbreaking $115 million cultivation and processing facility in Mildura.

The factory is expected to cement Victoria as a leader in the medicinal cannabis sector.

Already having supported 133 jobs during construction, the completion of the factory is expected to employ 40 full-time workers by December.

Victorian Regional Development Minister Mary-Anne Thomas said the project would continue to be a large drawcard in the region’s economy.

“We’re supporting more jobs through this game-changing project, ensuring Victoria is at the forefront of Australia’s emerging medicinal cannabis industry,” she said.

Construction of the first-of-its-kind facility in Australia involves the extension and refurbishment of a former fruit juice factory.

It has the capacity to grow up to 70,000 kilograms of dried cannabis flowers that will be used to produce capsules and oils.

Northern Victoria MP Mark Gepp said that this facility would enable the state to run with the big names of medical cannabis production around the world.

“This facility is unique to Mildura and is accelerating the future potential of a crucial industry. The medicinal cannabis industry is growing rapidly and Victoria is well placed to compete in the sector,” he said.

The 13.5-hectare site also includes a fully automated glasshouse, laboratory, testing facility and cultivation rooms.

The project is expected to deliver $191 million to the Mildura regional economy and is a part of the Labor Government’s Medical Cannabis Industry Development Strategy to supply half of Australia’s medicinal cannabis by 2028.

Cann Group is licensed to research, cultivate and manufacture medicinal cannabis and also manufactures pharmaceutical grade medicinal cannabis products for Victorian patients.

Products will be made available throughout Australia and approved overseas markets via pharmaceutical businesses.
