A talented Mildura artist will spend months in jail after he attacked a pensioner inside his own home.
Bradley Johnson, 43, pleaded guilty in the Mildura Magistrates’ Court after he threw his shoe at the 81-year-old, and punched the victim in the head so hard he fell back against his kitchen cupboards.
During the incident, witnesses heard Johnson making threats to kill, with one hearing him say, “I’ll kill this old c---.”
The court heard about Johnson’s mental health and addiction struggles, having started drinking alcohol and smoking canabis at just nine years old.
He is also a diagnosed schizophrenic.
Johnson’s lawyer told the court his client expressed deep remorse and shame as a result of his actions.
The court also heard about Johnson’s burgeoning art career, supported through The Torch Program.
The Torch program supports Indigenous people, both in prisons and post-release, in Victoria to explore their Indigenous culture and identity through practising art.
Johnson was sentenced to 105 days in prison.
