The road leading to a Mildura caravan park has been closed as the part prepares for floodwaters.
Cureton Ave leading up to Apex Caravan Park is currently closed to the public to allow swift access in and out for park staff as they finish preparation for floods.
Over the month of October, Mildura saw 109.6mm of rainfall, causing the local riverside caravan park to close down until early December.
While the Apex Caravan Park is currently closed due the high river level, the owner Colin Stewart expects to be open again in time for Christmas.
“At this stage, given the current set of information, we’ll be open in time for Christmas,” he said.
Both Mr Stewart and the council are doing everything they can to prepare for the flood and make sure the park is open again in time for holiday goers.
“The park was closed from Monday this week, we’ve got everything out of the park and the council has sandbagged and prepared for the flood,” Mr Stewart said.
“I suspect it might take us a week to get the park back up and open.”
While the park has managed to stay relatively dry so far, Bureau of Meteorology spokeswoman Morgan Pumpa expects that to change as the river level continues to rise.
“At the Mildura weir it may exceed the minor flood level,” she said, adding it may reach the moderate flood level sometime between November 21 and 25.
Ms Pumpa reminded people to watch out for flood warnings and keep an eye on the local forecast.
