A tow truck driver who was involved in a collision which claimed the life of the cyclist in Pascoe Vale South has had his bail application revoked ahead of trial, after he was caught driving on two occasions, breaking his bail conditions.

Mendo Vrskovski, 48, appeared in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday, charged with dangerous driving causing death, driving with more than the prescribed amount of methylamphetamine in his system and failing to give way at an intersection. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Meadow Heights man was driving a tow truck for work in April when he turned right onto Melville Rd off Brearley Parade in Pascoe Vale South and allegedly hit a 43-year-old Brunswick West cyclist.

Mr Vrskovski, who assisted after the collision, tested positive for meth at the scene.

Mr Vrskovski had been on bail since April but the presiding magistrate said it “beggared belief” regarding the way he contravened his bail orders which was described as “no better demonstration” of his “indifference” to the bail conditions.

The prosecution, represented by Jelena Malobabic, contested the bail application as they submitted that Mr Vrskovski had contravened his bail order by driving a car on two occasions.

Victoria Police major crash investigations unit Senior Constable Holly Gibson said police had seen CCTV footage which showed Mr Vrskovski driving a car on October 8 and 20 which was in contravention with his bail conditions.

Defence barrister Erin Byrt submitted that due to the health issues of Mr Vrskovski and his wife, he should be granted bail until trial. This was due to Mr Vrskovski needing to care for his wife and mother who both had health concerns of their own.

However, the bail application was denied with Mr Vrskovski to be remanded until the trial date.

The case will return to court for a directions hearing on December 5.
