Federal pedophile hunters allegedly busted a Melbourne student with grubby child abuse material.

Kaj Newell, 22, fronted Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Friday charged with accessing and possessing child abuse material.

It’s alleged Newell was busted with child abuse material at Southbank on May 11 last year.

Newell, who was arrested and charged by the Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team, allegedly accessed child abuse material on August 17, 2020.

JACET, a federal taskforce made up of officers from AFP and state authorities including Victoria Police, is tasked with hunting pedophiles and other online sex offenders and keeping children safe.

It’s also alleged Newell intentionally accessed child abuse material at Southbank on or before May 11 last year.

The court heard Newell’s defence team submitted a plea deal offer to resolve the matter on September 28.

The prosecution submitted it needed extra time to assess the offer.

Newell, of Southbank, had his bail extended to next face court on November 11.

Newell, according to his Facebook profile, purportedly studies at RMIT and had studied at Griffith University.
