A Melbourne CBD building has been evacuated and a man rushed to hospital with various injuries after a fire.

A man has been rushed to hospital with multiple injuries after a fire broke out in a CBD apartment building.

Six fire trucks responded to an apartment building fire on the corner of Flinders and Degraves streets at 11.20am on Wednesday, March 14.

Paramedics treated a man who suffered upper and lower body injuries and has been taken to The Alfred hospital.

A Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said people in the building were quickly evacuated.

“Approximately 18 firefighters are responding to a fire in a Flinders St apartment building in Melbourne’s CBD,” the spokesperson said.

“Firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes and wearing breathing apparatus, worked to bring a fire in one of the apartments under control within eight minutes.

“Occupants of the building were evacuated and firefighters are now working to ventilate the building.

The blaze is under control and the cause is being investigated.
