An athlete and role model is hoping to win her fourth HYROX race on the weekend.
HYROX will be hosting its second race of the year — a Christmas event — at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on Saturday and Sunday, where more than 10,000 racers expected to compete in the competition.
The HYROX race — that encourages participants to challenge themselves and connect with the community — consists of a 1km run leading to a functional workout station that is repeated eight times, and competitor Joanna Wietrzyk hopes to take home the gold.
Ms Wietrzyk had a recent win at the Elite 15 Hong Kong Major, placed third at the Amsterdam Major in October and had three HYROX Australia race wins in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth.
She said taking part in the Hong Kong Major was a “dream come true”.

“I am so proud to take home the win against the best Hyrox athletes in the world,” Ms Wietrzyk said.
Ms Wietrzy has also set a new record in her age group, holding a time of 1 hour and 46 seconds, and her success has inspired a new wave of female athletes, as well as demonstrating that fitness racing is accessible to everyone.
