WRFL: Cameron Morrison starring for Wyndhamvale as Falcons beat Newport

A Wyndhamvale midfielder has “arrived as a senior footballer” according to his coach while two other young guns have returned to their best form as the Falcons made it three straight wins.

Cameron Morrison has “arrived as a senior footballer” according to Wyndhamvale coach Luke Wenlock.

The comments came after the 24-year-old continued his stunning start to the season in the Falcons’ 15.6 (96) to 8.10 (58) win over Newport.

A Wyndhamvale junior, Morrison has put together an impressive opening five games with nine goals despite playing in a largely midfield role.

Wenlock said the club had been “waiting for” Morrison to take his game to the next level.

“He’s been superb,” Wenlock said.

“We knew Cam had it in him it was just about when that moment was going to come and now we’re here. He is just a kid who loves his footy.

“He’s going to be around for a while and I still think there is room for improvement in his game.

“When we were in Division 1 he was part of our midfield group which did get beaten quite easily. So last year we sent him back and now he’s back in the middle and thriving.

“He’s kicking goals now too which has been a really important part of his game.”

Wenlock said his side’s improvement from round 1 to now was one of the biggest factors behind a winning streak which has now extended to three games.

In that period players including Brodie Meadows and Liam Scarborough have continued to impress.

“You can’t lay a glove on him (Meadows) at the moment — he’s playing super footy,” Wenlock said.

“And Liam is another guy who has got back to his best in recent weeks which has been really pleasing.”

Mathiang Kak, Mackenzie Parker and Tyler Tessari were also strong performers as the Falcons ran away with the game in the second half kicking 12 goals to six.

“Speaking to the boys at halftime it felt like we were in control but it just hadn’t clicked yet,” Wenlock said.

“But then the scoring side just came about in the second half, we didn’t really change anything.

“We’ve improved every week and that’s helped us to get some momentum.”

For Newport, Hussien Kadour was named the best player on the ground in a performance which included three goals.

Nayef Hamad, Sohrob Ismail, Abdul Elkurdi, Malek El-Hassan and Omar Abou-Zeid also battled hard.

Next up for Wyndhamvale is a trip to North Footscray while Newport host Albion.
