With the AFL Mid-Season Draft looming closer, the weekend’s VFL action was one of the last opportunities for hopefuls to put their names up in lights.

And several players certainly delivered.

Here are all the key talking points from the weekend’s action.

WERRIBEE ROARS IN STUNNING COMEBACK

It’s going to be hard to find a better comeback in the VFL this season.

After trailing by 42 points at halftime, Werribee produced a stunning second half against the previously unbeaten Gold Coast Suns to secure a thrilling two-point win at Avalon Airport Oval.

Matt Hanson made a stunning return to action for the Tigers with 32 disposals and two goals in his first game since Round 21 last year.

Shaun Mannagh, who is considered an AFL Mid-Season Draft chance, was named in Werribee’s best alongside Tom Gribble, Dom Brew and Kye Declase.

Hudson Garoni finished with three goals.

LIONS TRIO CONTINUE TO DOMINATE

On the outer of Brisbane’s AFL team, Devon Robertson, Jarryd Lyons and Rhys Mathieson are continuing to put up big numbers for the Lions.

The trio all recorded over 35 touches in a 117-point win over Coburg.

It will be interesting to see if they attract interest from other clubs at the end of the season.

PLENTY OF REASONS TO SMILE FOR HAWTHORN

While the Hawks recorded a monster win in the AFL, its VFL side — Box Hill — had a big win over its own with a 39-point win over Southport on Saturday afternoon.

In pleasing signs for the brown and gold, Henry Hustwaite — who arrived at the club last year — produced his best performance of the season at VFL level with 26 disposals, six tackles and five clearances.

Jaylon Thorpe kicked 3.3 for Box Hill as he continued an impressive season.

Boyd Woodcock and Jacob Dawson were again among Southport’s best.

IS HARVEY GETTING CLOSER TO A DEBUT?

You’d think North Melbourne father-son draftee Cooper Harvey is getting closer to an opportunity at the top level.

Harvey booted five goals in his side’s loss to Casey to make it nine goals in his last three matches, although he was goalless a week earlier against Frankston.

CUMBERLAND RESPONDS AS TIGERS COMEBACK

Noah Cumberland did his chances of a recall to Richmond’s senior side no harm with a four-goal and 17 disposal performance.

Cumberland was the leading goalkicker on the ground as the Tigers booted the last three majors of the game to secure a comeback win over Essendon.

IMPRESSIVE START FROM PORT DEBUTANT

Tasmanian Jordan Lane made a strong start to life for Port Melbourne in a 63-point thumping of the Sydney Swans on Saturday night.

He finished with three goals and seven disposals while spending time in the ruck.

Fraser Rosman was the leading ball winner on the ground with 29 touches.
