Rupertswood records famous win over Deer Park

Rupertswood secured a famous win against Deer Park on Saturday afternoon with its coach declaring a new “standard” had now been set for the Sharks.

Rupertswood is bursting with potential, now it’s time to deliver on a more consistent basis.

That’s the message from Sharks coach Arron Bray after his side stunned Deer Park in an Essendon District league thriller, 13.5 (83) to 12.10 (82), on Saturday afternoon.

A Rupertswood upset is nothing new in the past 18 months.

In fact, Bray’s side have made a habit of pulling a rabbit out of the hat against the competition’s best side.

Regarded as having one of the best young lists in the competition, Bray has set his side the challenge of bringing close to its best footy every week.

“Our boys set themselves to take it up to Deer Park and it’s really rewarding when it all comes off,” Bray said.

“That has to be the standard we’ve set for ourselves and one we need to be maintaining. The challenge is to back it up and not drop off in those games where people might consider us the favourites.

“Winning the type of game we did on Saturday creates a fair bit of buzz around the place and I want to see us keep growing as a group.”

Bray was full of praise for his players post-match, saying he could have had said something positive about all of them.

Despite Deer Park winning the last quarter, Rupertswood was able to secure one of its most famous wins in recent memory.

“It was an even team performance and it has to be to win those types of games,” he said.

“Jackson Cardillo was brilliant all day, one of the best games I have seen him play. Jackson Pranauskas had his moments.

“Zak Saad was sensational forward of the footy. We asked the guys to do a job for us and they did.

“We put plans in place and the boys were able to deliver on those.”
