After losing its first three games of the season, Spotswood has now won three on the trot. Here’s what has been key in the turnaround.

It was a turning point that people outside of the four walls of Spotswood probably didn’t see coming.
After a 70-point thumping at the hands of Hoppers Crossing in Round 3, dark clouds rolled in over Spotswood.
Since then, the Woodsmen have turned their season around in remarkable fashion to win three games on the trot.
The latest was their most impressive yet, a 10.11 (71) to 10.4 (64) victory over Caroline Springs — a side many considered to be the premiership favourites at the start of the season.
In his first season in charge of the men from Donald McLean Reserve, Tom German said there had been a significant mood change compared to three weeks ago.
“We’ve had a really good block,” he said.
“It just seems to have clicked in all aspects to a certain extent. We got that first win against Point Cook Centrals and our confidence has just grown from there.
“After that loss against Hoppers Crossing, we had a few meetings and chats as a group and we’ve built off that. This is a young group who are still learning.
“It’s exciting that there’s still going to be a lot of room for improvement.”
Saturday’s win wasn’t without major challenges either.
After kicking just three goals in the first three quarters, Caroline Springs came roaring home in the last quarter with seven goals to two in the final term.
German said it was another important lesson for his side to have undertaken.
“Caroline Springs are a quality side and when they kicked seven straight, the pressure was definitely on,” he said.
“We had something similar happen against Yarraville as well and we came from behind against Centrals. So we’ve shown that we’re able to win games in a variety of ways.”
Grant Williams was named best afield for Spotswood while Jack Charleston continued his impressive season.
Sam Harvey was Spotty’s only multiple goalkicker with two as Lakers coach Brian Lake finished as the game’s highest goalkicker with three.
“Jack has been great since he’s come back from injury, he missed the first four games with a hamstring,” German said.
“The new recruits are doing a really good job of leading the younger guys around the club. Dave Iaccarino has been superb to start the year as well.
“I’ve received a lot of support since coming on board, it’s a great club to be part of.”
Spotswood will look to continue its winning ways when it takes on Point Cook away from home on Saturday.
