The Glen Eira forward line presented double trouble to Hawthorn AFC on Saturday.

Julius Waras Carstensen slotted 11 goals in the Gryphons’ 100-point mauling of the Hawks, while teammate Andrew “Batwing’’ Barrett fired off nine.

The pair was unstoppable and sensational, combining for 20 goals in the 28.16 (184) to 12.12 (84) triumph.

Waras Carstensen had seven goals by halftime after a sizzling display of high marking and straight kicking.

“Batwing’’ Barrett lived up to his superhero nickname, firing off seven goals in an 18 minute period from late in the third term to midway through the last.

He also took a skyscraping mark that onlookers described as one of the best in the VAFA.

“He’d be 5’11’’ and dunks a basketball,’’ Gryphons boardman David Walter said.

“It was like a basketball jump off two feet, landing on people’s heads.’’

Glen Eira kicked eight goals in the third quarter to extend its 34-point halftime lead to 84 by the last change. Teenager Joel Ludik and the experienced Jamie Doran off half back also impressed for the Gryphons.

On a three-game tear, Glen Eira has consolidated third spot.

In Premier C, Ormond’s game against Marcellin on Saturday was called off halfway through the last quarter after a player suffered a badly broken leg.

Ormond defender Alistair McCooke broke both his tibia and fibula when his leg was caught up with another player’s leg in a tackle.

Umpires decided to end the game when it became clear McCooke needed an ambulance.

Marcellin was awarded the win as it was leading 16.6 (102) to 8.14 (62) at the time.

McCooke had surgery on Sunday.

“It put a real gloom over the day,’’ Ormond coach Ash Lever said of the injury.

Apart from a spectacular mark by Tonn Steele, Ormond had few highlights as it suffered its third loss.

“We had our chances early,’’ Lever said.

“We kicked seven points before our first goal which left Marcellin in the game. We led all the stats except on the scoreboard which was the important one.

“The boys will bounce back next week.’’
