Ormond flicked the switch with a stunning 10-goal third quarter against Old Ivanhoe Grammarians on Saturday, turning a 31-point halftime deficit into a rousing 11-point victory in the VAFA Premier C Round 6 game.
Former Melbourne and Collingwood defender Simon Buckley was at the heart of third quarter blitz, running rampant with seven shots at goal in the term.
He finished the game with four goals, while Sam Mason slotted six in the 17.10 (112) to 14.11 (102) win.
Buckley was playing his second game after returning from a hamstring injury and Ormond coach Ash Lever said he moved well.
“Geez, he can kick the ball,’’ Lever said.
“He will grow in a lot of confidence as far as his body goes because he’s back right again. He’s just so hard to beat in one-on-ones — it’s near-on impossible. He’s just a very powerful man. He’s a big bloke who is super agile at ground level and strong in the air, so he’s the complete package.’’
Lever said Ormond midfield guns Max Kennedy and Dae Szydlik were instrumental in the turnaround, small forward Tonn Steele was terrific all game, Ethan Hanley starred and ruckman Lloyd Anrep gave first use to the Monders.
Ormond (5-1) host undefeated Williamstown CYMS at EE Gunn Reserve on Saturday.
In Division2, Glen Eira trailed throughout as it lost to Brunswick 17.4 (106) to 13.16 (94). Todd Richardson (two goals), Matt Harris and Bryce Judd (two) were best for the Gryphons.
