New Lyndhurst coach Andy Clarke has been working around the clock.
He has wasted no time in his new role, bolstering the Lightning’s list with a plethora of ready-made recruits.
The Lightning have added Brandon Lewis, Cruze Tohiariki, Trae Tohiariki, Taka Tohiariki, Damon Moody and Aiden Fischer.
There’s no sign of showing down either, with more expected in coming weeks.
Each of his confirmed recruits have a thing in common: they’ve all played a lot of senior footy.
Clarke found that imperative when looking to add to an already established young side.
“They’ve all played a lot of senior footy so they’ll add more composure and leadership out on the ground – that’s the main thing,” he said.
“They’ve all got different skill sets; Trae and Damo are intercept players, Aiden is a running winger with a nice left foot, Cruze is a key forward… Taka can play as a small forward or on ball.
“Brandon can slot straight into the midfield which gives Stevo Williams and Charlie (Gardiner) a chop out.
“They all kick the footy well and can all run.”
Clarke’s goal was to play finals and it hasn’t changed with the addition of his new recruits.
“The goal of everyone is to play finals isn’t it? And we weren’t far off it,” he said.
“If we can keep everyone and add to what we have got, I can’t see that being an unrealistic goal.
“Once you’re in the finals, you never know what’s going to happen.”
Lyndhurst will — at this stage — play Frankston Dolphins, Carrum Patterson Lakes, Black Rock, Ashwood, Heatherton, Narre South Saints and South Mornington in Division 3.
