South Mornington president Lachlan Bell-Towers is hoping Saturday’s cameo from colourful three-time premiership player Jason Akermanis will put his club on the map.

Akermanis, 46, pulls on the Tigers jumper for a one-off performance in a stand-alone match on Saturday night.

Bell-Towers says the addition is “massive” considering his group is 6-0 and has a percentage of 279.

“I think it’s massive, especially with the time we have done it, we have gone to all the teams we have played this year now and have sort of set the standard,” he says.

“The time that the game is on means that all the other local clubs can come and watch and they can all get an idea of what South Mornington is about.

“(He will teach us) Game sense at certain times, when to go, when not to go, when to do certain things and maybe a few little tricks along the way…maybe a handstand.”

The Tigers are coming off a 246-point win over South Yarra with forwards Anthony Giulanio (12 goals) and Travis French (11 goals) combining for 23 majors.

While they’re firing on all cylinders up front, Bell-Towers says his twin forwards will be making way for the 2001 Brownlow Medallist deep.

“Yeah they will be,” he says.

“They’ll still be down there but it’ll be a combination of all three of them – hopefully they all do pretty well together.”

Bell-Towers wants the community to come down and watch as the club is aiming to put on a show.

“It would be great to be able to bring the community in and see everyone down there,” he says.

“Because we’re probably a smaller team in Mornington compared to the other teams around the area, the fact we can get this exposure and other people get to come and watch us, I mean that’s the exciting thing.

“Hopefully it showcases what we’re about.

“He is going to do an auction after the game with some of his AFL jumpers and his worn jumper that he wears in the game.”

The Tigers host Lyndale at Citation Reserve from 6:00pm.
