Dandenong Stingrays have kept their unbeaten run alive, overcoming a spirited Murray Bushrangers outfit in another convincing display to win by 51 points on Saturday.

The Stingrays on-ball brigade, led by Jaide Anthony, Amber Clarke and Charley Ryan, had the upper hand in the battle of two of the competition’s best midfields.

On a windy afternoon in Frankston, Dandenong ran out comfortable winners 11.10 to 3.7.

The clash was live streamed by the Herald Sun and Geelong Advertiser as part of our season-long commitment to the state’s elite junior footy competition.

Anthony was best on ground in her side’s win over the Bendigo Pioneers last weekend after finishing with 16 disposals and three goals.

Dandenong talent lead Toby Jedwab said a position switch from defence had worked wonders for the 18-year-old.

“Jaide has been playing more of a midfield-forward role in the first few games,” he said.

“She’s shown a tremendous ability to continue finding the footy but the most important thing is that she’s been able to hit the scoreboard as well.”

Jedwab said the Stingrays’ coaching staff had been most impressed by Anthony’s workrate.

“It’s been something she has been focusing on during pre-season and has now carried it into the season,” he said.

“Her GPS numbers have been outstanding.”

While Clarke and Ryan might have been down in last week’s game, compared to the opening two rounds, the pair has already established themselves as must watch talents this season.

“Amber is a really powerful athlete who has the ability to continue breaking away from her opponent throughout the duration of a match,” he said.

“Charley is another player who changed roles this season going from the wing into a more inside midfield role. She’s taken really well to that and has also provided a strong target for us to inside 50.”

For the Bushrangers, soccer convert Zarlie Goldsworthy is continuing to rack up big numbers after 25 disposals last weekend.

While Zara Hamilton took her game to another level with 38 disposals in the win over the Northern Knights.

Bushrangers coach Mark Brown said Hamilton’s ability to win the ball was “something you can’t teach”.

“Zara works extremely hard to get from contest to contest and that’s rewarded with how often she finds the footy,” he said.

“She’s made a fantastic start to the season and we hope to see that form continue. Zarlie just keeps on getting better with every game she’s plays — she has a lot of upside.

“Opposition teams have probably given her some closer attention in the past couple of games but she’s worked her way through that.

“What impressed me most last week was she had 12 tackles which shows she does it both ways.”
