The six want-to-be Mornington Peninsula league clubs will have the opportunity to present to existing club presidents before they give their final verdict on expansion.
Cranbourne, Narre Warren, Pakenham, South Mornington, Carrum Patterson Lakes and Frankston Dolphins will each be asked to put forward their case in coming weeks ahead of the final decision.
Attendance to the presentation is not mandatory for the existing 22 clubs.
MPFNL Chair Graham Sherry says the interview process is the final step before the final decision.
“The expressions of interest have been lodged and accessed,” he said.
“The process of interviewing the clubs is so the presidents can be fully informed before they can make a decision.
“The presidents will make the decision; we just do the assessment, the presidents will just look at the results from the review, participate in the interviews and then make a decision.”
The opportunity arises just a month after Narre Warren offered to present to the existing clubs.
“What we’re trying to show the other clubs is that we’re a similar community club to them, we’re there to promote local young people playing football and netball,” Narre Warren president Stuart Stephenson said July 12.
“Some of them we have never played against, so we would like to chat to them so they can see who we are, our facilities and that we’d be a valued member of the league.
“If we were to get in, it would create great enthusiasm and uplift in the area (of Narre Warren).”
The existing club presidents met last week to discuss finals venues and the early stages of expansion.
One club president said the initial dialogue about growth was “a positive discussion”.
