FORMER West Coast Eagle Tom Lamb kicked five goals for Edithvale-Aspendale in its 29-point win over Frankston Bombers on Saturday.

It was a triumphant homecoming for Lamb, a former Edi-Asp junior who is on Sandringham’s VFL list this season. With the Zebs having a bye on the weekend he was released to play with some of his old mates — and he did it well.

“He really turned it on. It was fun to watch,’’ Edi-Asp coach Graeme Yeats, who coached Lamb at the Stingrays in 2013, said after the Eagles kicked away from the Bombers to win 13.13 (91) to 8.14 (62).

“We just played him inside forward 50. I just pretty much told him to go where you think you can impact and he looked pretty dangerous in the first 10 minutes, took a couple of really strong marks. He’s just furnished, he’s just gotten bigger and stronger and is a pretty imposing kid at the moment.

“It was great for us and the players really rallied around him, supported him. It was a good day, good for our footy club.’’

While Lamb shone brightly up forward, Sam Monaghan, Charlie Martello and Mick Meehan also played starring roles in what Yeats described as “a dogged win’’. For the Bombers, Brad Whittley kicked three goals and Brett Sutton, Sam Fox and Jason Bedford tried hard.

The race for fifth spot in MPNFL Division 1 is set to go down to the wire, with a surging Bonbeach, seventh, threatening to leapfrog Frankston YCW and Frankston Bombers and snatch a finals berth.

Bonbeach has won four of its past five games to sit only two points out of the five.

Trent Dennis-Lane fired off nine goals as the Sharks bounded clear to beat Mornington 16.13 (109) to 9.12 (66).

The former Sydney and St Kilda forward probably should have kicked 10 — he missed a fairly regulation shot late in the game.

“He was fantastic,’’ Bonny coach Steve Hughes aid of TDL.

“I think he kicked five in the second.’’

Shane McDonald was brilliant in the first half, while Gav Vassallo, Jackson Sole, Luke Verma and James Murnane also sparkled as Bonny led at each change, sealing victory with a five-goal-to-one last term.

Bonbeach faces Seaford and Pines in the last two rounds and is still a chance to get in.

“It’s still a bit of a Hail Mary for me but we’ll see what happens,’’ Hughes said.

Pines blew Frankston YCW out of the water before halftime to set up a 10.10 (70) to 3.19 (37) win at Eric Bell Reserve. The win secures a finals berth for the Pythons.

Pines kicked eight of the first nine goals to sprint to a 39-point lead at the long interval and, although being kept scoreless against the wind in the last quarter, they were never threatened.

Pines had winners all over the ground, with defender Ben Thomas turning in a blinder, and Jacob Boyle, Perry Lewis-Smith, Jonathan Hughes, Nick Boswell and Lachy Marshall performing their roles.

Frankston YCW kicked itself out of the contest in the first half, spraying 1.10. The Stonecats suffered a blow before the game when key player Cody Henness, while on the way to the ground, was called up by Footscray’s VFL side. YC’s best were Hayden Raphael, Danny Hughes, Jacob Cheverly and Kyle Hutchison, who appeared to hurt a knee in the third term but returned to finish the game.

Ladder leaders Sorrento made better use of the breeze to beat Seaford 16.12 (108) to 11.10 (76) at Belvedere Reserve.

Chris Dawes and Troy Schwarze didn’t play for the Sharks but James Hallahan, Nick Marston, Mitch Hallahan, Luke Tapscott (four goals) and Chad Harris were excellent. For Seaford, Aaron Walton was outstanding, slotting six goals, while young Ayden Woodward showed plenty of promise.

Mt Eliza consolidated third spot with a powerful 85-point win over Rosebud 19.12 (126) to 6.5 (41).

The Redlegs’ forward line ran hot, with Jordan Moncrieff booting five goals, and Mitchell Chopping and Jimmy Freeman three apiece.
