They are the best back six in the competition.

Lachie Linder-Saunders, Cal Dixon, Levi Dixon, Zac Bartling, Robbie Hill and Jordan Pomeroy continue to power Karingal’s unbeaten start to the Mornington Peninsula league Division 2 season.

The Bulls have held opposition sides to 57, 39, 61, 55 and 53 points in their five wins.

On Saturday, Karingal put the squeeze on Somerville, ending the Eagles’ three-game winning streak with an 11.13 (79) to 8.5 (53) victory.

Sommie had over 50 inside 50s but were held to eight goals by Karingal’s scrooge-like defence.

In the past month, the Bulls have beaten Chelsea, Edi-Asp, Devon Meadows and Somerville to establish a one-game lead at the top of the ladder.

“We circled this month,” Karingal coach Luke Forsyth said.

“We felt if we could get out of it 3-1 we’d be pretty happy with ourselves and to get out of it four and zip (while) not playing our best footy is excellent.

“It feels like we’ve got plenty of room for improvement and it feels that we’ve learnt a fair bit, really focusing on our defensive structures.

“We talk about our points against and our backs are really holding tough while we’re still getting things right going forward.

“I don’t think anyone has kicked more than eight goals against us. It’s been a real focus for us.”

Karingal’s mids also impressed, led by Agape Patolo in the ruck; he was like an extra on-baller in the second half. Alex Frawley, Tom Curren and Josh Bradley all had great games, while Matt Robinson kicked three goals up forward.

Karingal faces Seaford, Pearcedale and Rye in the next three rounds before the mid-season break.
