Ex-AFL Magpie Ben Crocker lodges transfer to MPFNL club

There’s been a significant player transfer request in the Mornington Peninsula league, with a former Collingwood and Adelaide player seeking a clearance to a Division 1 club.

The transfer was officially lodged on May 3.

The move of ex-AFL player Ben Crocker from Port Melbourne Colts to Langwarrin in MPFNL Division 1 is in motion.

And if Port Colts don’t decline the transfer by close of business on Tuesday, it automatically goes through.

Crocker, who played 26 games with Collingwood and seven with Adelaide Crows, is on Carlton’s VFL list this season.

His decision to make Langwarrin his home club is through a friendship with Langy’s Tim McGenniss.

Langwarrin co-coach Josh Beard said, while the chances of Crocker playing a game with the Kangaroos this season was slim due to his Carlton commitments, it would be good to have him registered.

“He said on the off chance that he could (play a game), he was happy to nominate us as his home club,’’ Beard said.

“So at this stage it’s nothing more than being optimistic, but it’s a start.’’

Beard said Crocker could play with Langwarrin when Carlton’s VFL side has a bye.

“At least we’ve got him there, it might happen if the cards fall our way,’’ he said.

Crocker, 26, had four seasons with Collingwood from 2016-19 before being re-drafted by Adelaide in the 2020 rookie draft.

He signed for the Carlton reserves in 2021.

Meanwhile, Langwarrin’s tall player stocks have been further depleted after ruckman Jye Moli suffered a knee injury against Frankston Bombers last Saturday.

“We don’t know the severity of it yet,’’ Beard said.

Langwarrin has had a win, a draw and three losses since stepping up to Division 1 this season.

“It’s a super competition and we’ve all found out that if you’re off your game for a quarter, or half a quarter, you get put away,’’ Beard said.

“We’ve had to change our style a bit just in regards to defending a bit better and working harder as a team.

“We’re confident we fit in division one but we’ve just got to get better at executing for longer periods.’’
