MPFNL: Dynamic Dromana make it 6-0 with win over Frankston Bombers in Division 1

Jake Aarts, Billy Geurts and Ethan Johnstone stamped their class as Dromana put a gap on their rivals in MPFNL Division 1. See the round wrap-up.

Ethan Johnstone kicked five goals as undefeated Dromana increased its lead atop the Mornington Peninsula Football league Division 1 ladder with a resounding 39-point win over the Frankston Bombers on Saturday.

Sam Fowler also starred for the Tigers with three goals, while ex-AFL Tiger Jake Aarts continued his impressive form in the 12.15 (87) to 7.6 (48) victory.

Dromana outscored the Bombers nine goals to three after half-time as ruckman Billy Geurts stamped his authority on the match.

Nick Collier, Billy Quigley and Jai Taylor also impressed for the 6-0 Dromana.

Sorrento had too much firepower for Langwarrin as it claimed a 28-point victory, 20.11 (131) to 15.13 (103).

“It was an old school shootout,” Sorrento coach and spearhead Leigh Poholke, who kicked six goals, said.

Former Subiaco midfielder Jack Beverley was named best-afield while Caulfield Grammarians recruit Jared Risol impressed in the ruck and up forward.

Shannon Gladman, Nick Marston, Aaron Breman and Marcus Gardner were also named in the best as the Sharks improved their record to 4-2.

For Langwarrin Josh Bateman kicked six goals and Blake Pullen got a heap of touches.

“We’re still learning and developing as a side with plenty to work on,” Poholke said.

“We’re looking forward to Mt Eliza next week.”

Frankston YCW had to dig deep to beat ninth-placed Red Hill by 23 points, 12.13 (85) to 9.8 (62) at Jubilee Park.

Red Hill led by four points at half-time before the reigning champs clicked into gear, kicking seven goals to three in the second half to get on top.

“It was a tough win,” Frankston YCW coach Paul Goonan said.

“We’re not playing great footy at the moment but we’re working through some things.

“We’re undermanned still but players start coming back now over the next few weeks from injury.”

Luke Paynter, Luca Goonan, Jimmy Cahill, Elijah Owen, Darcy Murr and Kyle Hutchison were YC’s best.

Red Hill showed it was close to a win, with Harry Wynn-Pope, Aden Phillips, Billy Sanders and second-gamer Isaac Buckley (two goals) doing well.

Pines edged Rosebud by 18 points to make it three wins on the spin, 9.9 (63) to 7.3 (45).

Ned Moodie and Jarrod Richards were terrific for the Pythons; Moodie, on a wing, kicked a 55 metre goal after the siren. Richards played at half back.

Pines, though, lost key forward Alex Spencer with a shoulder injury after he kicked two goals.

Nick Braund, Shane Savage, Guy Hendry and Jarrod Gatt were also named in Pines’ best.

Mt Eliza had 39 scoring shots as it powered to a 72-point win over Bonbeach, 17.22 (124) to 8.4 (52), at Madsen Reserve.

Back from the VFL, Finlay Bayne was in sizzling form, capping a best-on-ground display with a goal, while Nathan Scagliarini, Lochie Fewster and Thomas Kelly also dominated.

Victoria Country Under 18 player Finn Emile-Brennan made his senior debut for Mt Eliza.

The 4-2 Redlegs kicked seven goals in the last quarter to climb to second spot.
