The Lions punished the Cats to the tune of 211 points to score their first win since June 20, 2015.
Ardmona managed just one goal as Nunawading romped to a 33.28 (226) to 1.9 (15) victory.
Nunawading president Scott Cairns said just over 1000 people packed Koonung Reserve.
Celebrations wound up in the wee hours as many players savoured their first win.
“We’ve said for a long time that we’re the worst team in our competition but we’re the worst team in the best local footy competition in the country,” Cairns said.
“We were always quitely confident we’d be able to win and win by a bit but that was one of the real pleasing things from our point of view was that the guys just didn’t let up.
“A lot of the guys have had so many big losses that they wanted to dish one out.”

Nunawading also pocketed $10,000 for it efforts in the one-off promotion game against the Kyabram District league club.
“We’ve obviously still got a little bit of debt that we carry so we’ll clear a bit of that off and use it to potentially go and recruit some new players,” Cairns said.
“It will give us the opportunity to actually start the year with some money in the bank because we haven’t been able to do that over the last few years.”
The club’s next aim is to score a victory for premiership points in the Eastern Football League and end its 62-game losing streak.
The Lions are also just five defeats away from equalling Surrey Park’s record for the most consecutive losses in the EFL.
“That’s definitely what we’ll be after next season,” Cairns said.
“It’s nice to get the win and all that sort of stuff but I think in a lot of people’s minds at the club, the (losing) streak is still not really broken until you win it for premiership points.”
