AN ECSTATIC Marc Holt was chased by Cranbourne teammates and supporters after snapping his 1000th goal early in Saturday’s game against Officer at Casey Fields.
The Holt train had a full head of steam as one of local footy’s great moments unfolded on a sunny late July afternoon.
“It was about the first 90 seconds of the game,’’ Cranbourne coach Steve O’Brien said.

“He didn’t waste any time. It was a pretty good goal to bring up your thousandth but that’s what the big fella can do.’’
Holt’s milestone came after a crazy week during which he was handed a six-week suspension at the tribunal on Tuesday night and then a day later got off it.
Goal 1000 was a ripper.
Scooping the ball up one-handed 40m from goal, near the boundary line, he found space and snapped truly. It was power and class.
“Once he kicked it he went on a bit of a sprint,’’ O’Brien said.
“It was a bit like Shane Warne when he got his 700th wicket at the MCG. Off he went. It was funny to see.
“Those who planned to be somewhere near the mark probably weren’t near him in the end because he just took off.
“It’s an incredible achievement, 1000 goals in general is a good achievement but to do it for the one footy club, there’s not many people who can claim that.
“It’s a wonderful achievement, well deserved from a bloke who has been so loyal to his club.’’
Holt finished with 5.5, taking his career tally to 1004 goals, as Cranbourne won 13.16 (94) to 1.11 (17).
