Three cars and a truck have collided on one of Melbourne’s biggest motorways, causing delays of more than 30 minutes.
Emergency services responded to the collision on the Western Ring Rd near the Pascoe Vale exit ramps at Broadmeadows about 1.40pm on Wednesday.
Two women in their 30s have been rushed to the Royal Melbourne Hospital and one of the woman is in a serious condition.
All Greensborough-bound lanes of the M80 Ring Rd are closed near the Tullamarine Fwy after a serious collision.
Traffic is stacking up for kilometres near the closure.
Drivers are encouraged to exit the freeway using the Calder Fwy then use Bell St and Sydney Rd or exiting at Airport Dr, then using Sharps Rd and the Melrose Dr entry to return to the M80 Ring Rd.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash with motorists asked to allow extra time and avoid the area if possible as the investigations continue through the afternoon peak.
A Department of Transport spokesman said lanes will only re-open when it’s safe to do so.
“This incident and road closure is under the control of emergency services … the VicRoads signals team is monitoring conditions in the area and will adjust traffic lights to minimise congestion along detour routes,” he said.
More to come.
