CRAZY shakes are putting a Mentone cafe on the foodie bucket list.
Loaded with fairy floss, chocolate chip cookies, popcorn and even lollipops, the decadent drinks are luring curious customers to Sweet Espresso.
The cafe opened in a Nepean Highway warehouse near Bunnings earlier this year.
Co-owner Evan Li said the unusual venue was “destiny”.
“I used to live around Seaford and Frankston and I love the Bayside suburbs,” Mr Li said.
“I already have a cafe in South Melbourne and had been looking out for another beachside spot.”
Together with business partner Ryan Ran, Mr Li created Sweet Espresso from scratch, including the menu.
“We like to see what the locals want when we’re developing a menu so we did a lot of trials and taste tests for Sweet Espresso,” Mr Li said.
Already a fan of the crazy shake (his favourite is The Cookie Monster) Mr Li said he wanted to bring them to Mentone.
“I think we are the first people here doing them,” he said.
The cafe serves the Dead Man Espresso coffee blend from its sister cafe in South Melbourne.
There is also an array of tempting and creative dishes on the menus from soft shell crab tacos to croissants stuffed with Maltesers.
