A fish and chip shop owner who took his new car for a burn has had his licence cooked after police caught him doing double the speed limit.
He was stopped in a sports car he had bought earlier that day by officers who had clocked him at 169km/h in an 80km/h zone on the Princes Highway in Springvale.
Antony Lancellotti pleaded guilty to a dangerous driving charge at Dandenong Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

The court heard the 26-year-old, who runs a Brunswick fish and chip shop, was seen by police on Princes Highway at 12.45am on February 24 last year.
They watched him do a U-turn at Corrigan Rd and followed him as he raced away
tracking him at 169km/h before they stopped him in Webb Ave.
He told officers he didn’t believe he was doing that speed, until they showed him the laser readout. His car was impounded for 30 days.
In court Lancellotti’s defence lawyer said he had only taken possession of the car, a “high-powered German marque” that day, and because he had not driven a vehicle that potent before he hadn’t realised he was going so fast.

He said since the incident Lancellotti had done road safety and defensive driving courses and contributed to road trauma charities.
He said he still had the car, but it was now only used for Sandown track days.
Magistrate Steven Raleigh said Lancellotti was travelling at a “significant” speed and banned him from the road for 12 months, as well as giving him a $2500 fine.
He said if he had pleaded not guilty he would have jailed him for a month.
He refused a police request to have the car further impounded, saying Lancellotti had already had the vehicle taken off of him once before.
