Miro Sol, 38, appeared at Moorabbin Magistrates’ Court on September 14, applying to be let out of jail until his next court date in December.

He is facing a plethora of drug, weapons and court order breach charges relating to crimes allegedly committed while he was on bail.

The court heard police raided the Bentleigh East property of Mr Sol and a co-accused on July 18 this year.

They allegedly discovered drugs and cash in the house and a handgun, with ammunition, hidden in a speaker.

A phone that was found also allegedly had instructions on how to dismantle and assemble a handgun.

Mr Sol is a prohibited person who is not allowed to own a weapon.

He is currently on bail from Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on weapons, drugs, theft and driving related offences, and allegedly failed to report to Bayside police when required to.

His lawyer told the court the “celebrated chef” had a serious drug problem over the past four years.

She said it began when a family tragedy became a stressor for his PTSD, which had occurred from working as an undercover operative in the Israeli army when he was aged in his teens.

She said if bailed he would go to an intensive drug treatment clinic in Geelong that would supervise and counsel him for his addiction, services which were not available in prison.

But magistrate Thomas Barrett said the exceptional circumstances bar had not been met.

He said Mr Sol had a corrections order, which was not complied with, and had a prior attempt at rehabilitation which had not been successful at dealing with his drug issues.

He said he posed an unacceptable risk to the community.

He refused bail and remanded Mr Sol to face court again on December 13.
