Carnegie traffic: Koornang Road, Dandenong Road accident, pedestrian hit by car

The death of an elderly pedestrian has led to charges after an early-morning collision in Carnegie.

A driver has been charged after a woman was hit and killed by a car in Carnegie.

Police have charged a 33-year-old Box Hill woman with dangerous driving causing death following the incident on Dandenong and Koornang roads at 9.15am on June 9.

Detectives believe an 80-year-old Malvern East woman was crossing the busy intersection when she was hit by a car.

The driver stopped at the scene.

The elderly woman was rushed to The Alfred hospital but died from her injuries.

Both roads were closed for more than five hours and reopened about 3pm after police put detours in place and conducted investigations.

The driver has been bailed to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on June 16.
